Hack Your TiVo to gain more recording space!

The Easy (more espensive way)
The easiest way to add more space to your TiVo is to send it out to have another hard drive adced to it. More info found at Hindsdale
This will cost you $189 to add 165 Hours to your existing Tivo (Other options available)

The Right (More experienced way)
This way involves replacing or adding a hard drive to your existing Tivo yourself.
  • If you are replacing the hard drive yourself all you need is a 160GB hard drive which you can get for $80 and then follow the directions from Hindsdal here
  • If you want to add a second hard drive to your TiVo which is the recommended way and will allow you to use the space of your TiVo plus 160GB more, you need to purchase a bracket to hold the second hard drive in place inside the TiVo unit which will cost $25-$50 and can be purchased from TwinBreeze (You must know your model number to order)
  • Note: TiVo can only allocate about 150GB of space for each drive you add. Even if you add a 250GB drive to your Tivo, the unit will only be able to allocat 150GB of it so dont waste your money and simply get a 160GB drive
  • The maximum amount of space you can gain is by replacing your original hard drive with a 160GB and adding a second 160GB for a total of 320GB or about 344 Hours
