Everyone has heard about the iPad from Apple.  How does a notebook and tablet in one sleek ruby red U1 Hybrid from Lenovo IdeaPad sound to you? Actually, it’s about time someone came up with this concept since its impossible to expect a person to go around carrying so much equipment. And so the IdeaPad U1 from Lenovo makes its grand entrance.

To get the general idea of what the specs are, the U1 is equipped with an Intel-Powered Windows 7 OS, AND a  Snapdragon-powered linux OS in the tablet.  Its LITERALLY two computers in one!  It has the Intel CULV processor with 128GB SSD, detachable multi-task 11.6 touch screen display, with 3G, webcam, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and speakers.

The tablet part of the system is running the Skylight UI which you can switch to as fast a 3 seconds from the notebook. And it will automatically transfer any websites you are looking at in Windows to the Linux OS on the tablet when you switch back and forth.

The question on everyone’s mind is whether or not this U1 Hybrid will be worth getting. How long is battery life? Plus, does it work - will a notebook and tablet in one device be something people need?

First of all, it has separate battery packs for the notebook and the tablet, which is very convenient. The notebook can be detached and used independently. The notebook and the tablet have their own Wi-Fi antennas, while the tablet has the added advantage of having 3G and Bluetooth. All told, this latest from Lenovo appears to be going in the right direction.

There are also other Lenovo models that are being introduced together with the U1 Hybrid like the Skylight and the IdeaPad S10-3 and IdeaPad S10-3t. Expect it to be released later this year!
